ASSIGNMENT
Foamroller
The assignment's goal was to improve and modernize the classic foamroller, a tool used for massaging muscle tissue. By giving ear to customer experiences, creating possible unique selling points and staying true to the company's image, three concept foamrollers were given shape of which one was picked as an actual possibility for production.
IDEA GENERATION
Through sketches and 3D software (Solidworks), initial ideas were given shape. Requirements derived from market research, targetgroup analysis and brand image, functioned as building blocks for the design process. In the 3D models which are shown below, aready many elements can be recognized from the design of the final concept.
The 3 Concepts
After finalizing the generated ideas, certain attractive functions or characteristics were joined into concept foamrollers which were presented as plausible ideas for further development. What can be noted is that the three concepts bare a lot of similarities with the presented ideas but show a more mature and detailed design.
Fasciq - Air
Fasciq - Twister
Fasciq - Gear
Gear Concept Realization
The Fasciq - Gear concept was the prefered design and the unanimous choice of the company's members. Production methods were then explored as well as cost estimations. The image below show the parts of which the fasciq modules are composed. The parts were all made to be suitable for injection moulding. The image also shows a revision of some parts to reduce unnecessary costs. Parts 1,2,3 were e.g. transformed into a single injection molding parts, numbered as 4.
